Kalpna worked for the BBC both in London and Bristol for 24 years. She was Head of Production for the BBC’s Natural History department and the whole of the factual network, overseeing 550 hours of TV output, an international business of over £75m, and leading 100 staff.

Since leaving the BBC, Kalpna has taken on a number of roles. She is currently a visiting professor for UWE in their business school and she is also Chair of Trustees for Bristol charity, Frank Water. She sits on the board of trustees for Knowle West Media Centre, chairs the West of England LEP's skills group, and she is also on the Mayor’s commission for Women.

In 2014, Kalpna created and launched Bristol Food Connections – a citywide food festival designed to bring communities together.

Kalpna also runs her own media company and is in the process of writing a book.
