European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development

EAFRD funding is made up of a number of distinct elements, a small proportion of which is being made available to LEP areas through the EU SIF processes as part of a wider Growth Programme.

The Growth Programme is explained on GOV.UK.

On these pages you can also find general eligibility criteria and a description of the grants that will be available through the EAFRD element of EU SIF funding. Grant is available for the following types of business activity:

  • Business development
  • Food processing
  • Rural tourism infrastructure

These grants are not available everywhere, all of the time. The grants become available in tranches but only in those LEP areas that strategically want to offer them.

West of England Rural Development Programme: LEADER

The programme has a limited amount of funding available and grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. Projects which will deliver the LEADER aims of providing new jobs and/or economic growth will score more highly in the application appraisal process but all applications which meet any of the LEADER priorities will be considered. We particularly encourage applications from the forestry sector.

A limited number of grants of between £5000 and £40 000 are available. In most cases match funding of 60% of the total project costs would have to be provided by the applicant. If planning permission or any other permits are required for the project to go ahead this should be in place at the time of submission of the full application. More details of how to apply and the funding criteria are provided online.

We strongly recommend that you contact the team on 01275 333701 or  to check your project could be eligible for funding before submitting an expression of interest. Help to complete your full application is also available. Please note that the office is not open on Fridays.
