West of England Joint Committee set to discuss £74m investment

£74m for projects to drive economic growth will be discussed by The West of England Joint Committee when it meets at City Hall in Bristol on Friday 28 September, at 11.30 am.

The Joint Committee is the decision-making body for issues relating to the West of England Combined Authority, Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils, and the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The committee will discuss allocating £63.9m from the Economic Development Fund to upgrade flood defences along a 17km stretch of the Avonmouth Severnside Enterprise Area. The scheme would also see 85 hectares of wetland habitat being created in the Northwick and Hallen Marsh areas to mitigate the impact of development.

Members will also consider investing £8.7m from the Local Growth Fund into the Bath Innovation Pioneer Project, which will involve buying and refurbishing a 22,000 ft2 office building in the Bath city centre Enterprise Zone to provide small scale, high quality office space for high growth businesses.

£1.5m investment into a Keynsham Town Centre Improvement Programme, from the Local Growth Fund, will be considered. This would turn the temporary one-way scheme on the High Street into a permanent arrangement – accompanied by widened footways, improved walking and cycling links, dedicated cycle lane, new street furniture/ fittings and improved junctions.

The Joint Committee will receive an update on the Joint Local Transport Plan (JLTP), which will go out to public consultation in early 2019, and the region’s Business Plan, including the launch of a new Careers Hub, which will work with schools and colleges to improve careers opportunities and work experiences for young people.

The meeting will be webcast live at www.westofengland-ca.gov.uk. Meeting papers can also be found on the website.
